Thanks for the support!!!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Some of you have heard and some of you may not care but for those of you that are looking for some info about the Sadler and Carter Poker Freerolls……here it is!!!After losing our venue and trying to move the tournaments back to the retail shop we have decide to cancel this year series. The event that was held at the shop in January had a fairly good turn out but not as much support as we would have liked. I know that most of you that have been with us since the beginning have always supported us but there are more that don’t support us then that do. For those of you that have supported us we would like to give a special….THANK YOU!!!! The freerolls could not have been some much fun without YOU!!! We made some great friends, seen some great poker played and some not so great poker played but after it was all said and done we had fun and will miss everyone.

Enough with all the sappy stuff!!!

The final is will be held shortly. We are still trying to get the date nailed done. Please watch your email for more details if you have made the finals. Everyone that won an event will be allowed to play in the final as well as the top 15 point leaders. The points have been update and are finalized. If you cannot make the final tournament your chip stack will be blinded off. You will NOT be able to send an alternate.

I am looking forward to playing with all the winners and point leaders in one more event. If anyone would like to come to the store and watch the final we will be sending an email with details shortly. So come and cheer for you favorite Sadler and Carter Poker Team finalist.

We will post some tournament details and the winner after the final is finished. Hope you can join us for one last tournament!!!

Again THANKS to everyone that supported us and hope to see you on the felt sometime in the future.

The night of the Mojito!

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Our fourth event is in the books!  Congratulations to Nelda Molina for taking the first place finish in the tournament!  A regular player since the inception of Sadler and Carter.  Her first appearance at this years tournaments, but not much rust appeared in her game play!  YOU GO COWGIRL!

MojitosLots of Mojitos flew off the barshelf during the evening.  Heard whispers of “Not another one” from the barkeep
as I was sulking at the bar after another poor showing
in the tournament.  We had 88 in the large
tournament and constant sit ‘n go action.  Steve will
post the points later this week, so keep checking back
to see where you stand in your quest to the WSOP!

Glad to see all the players supporting the Freeroll Tournaments!

See you Monday 5th of November for round 5!

“I’m being bluffed, I should call”

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I caught up on all my Tivo’ed episodes of the Pro-Am Poker Equalizer this weekend. If you’re unfamiliar with this show, it’s a 6-handed table played with 4 pros and 2 amateurs, where the amateurs start with a 3:2 chip lead over the pros ($150000 for ams, $100000 for pros). It’s an interesting format. For the most part, the chip lead didn’t seem to help the amateurs, because they didn’t really know how to use it to their advantage.

There was one move in particular that, while demonstrated in the extreme, struck me as something I’ve seen many players do, both in tournaments and in cash play. In one hand, Cindy Margolis is heads-up against Phil Laak. Phil has flopped trips, whereas Cindy has only queen high. Phil puts her all in. While debating her call (which she eventually made!), Cindy says to the crowd “I think he’s bluffing!”

Now, Phil Laak is certainly capable of bluffing there, so you can see her point. But queen high?! I’ve actually seen people make this call in person, saying “I didn’t think you had anything.” Well, here’s a tip … if you don’t have anything either, you simply can’t make this call! You can only call the “bluffer” if you put him/her on two cards lower than yours, not connected to the board, with no straight draws or flush draws, and won’t pair up their hole cards on the turn or river. That’s a lot of ifs. Poker isn’t very forgiving, and even if you’re right, the guy can still hit his miracle cards to pair pretty easily. Just lay it down.

Slim needs a bodyguard…

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

A Houston newspaper reported the poker great, Amarillo Slim, was robbed at his Amarillo apartment on Sunday night.  Slim returned home only to find two men in the house.  The men had found Slim’s shotguns.  One man held him at gunpoint as the other tied him up.  The robbers got away with the shotguns and an undisclosed amount of money.

This is the second robbery that Slim has been involved with in only the last couple of months.  In October he was stopped in traffic but a gunmen who demanded money.  Slim refused and drove away with the gunmen firing shots at his vehicle.  He got away unharmed.

Does Slim just have bad luck or is he being targeted because of his poker fame???

Poker on the BIG SCREEN!!

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Poker is set to hit the silver screen in 2007.  It was only a matter of time before Hollywood jumped on the Poker bandwagon.  Hopefully Hollywood put some work in on the movies and not just throw something together to make a quick buck.

The first movie is called “Lucky You” and is scheduled for release in March 2007.  Starring Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore and Robert Duvall.  Poker pros that make cameo appearances inculded Brunson, chan, Negreanu, Hellmuth and many more.  I look forward to posting a review as soon as the movie is released.  Click on the above link to view the trailer.

The second movie is called “Deal“.  “Deal” is set to be released some time mid 2007, no defiant release date but we will keep you updated when we here more.  Burt Reynolds returns to the big screen with Brett Harrison and Shannon Elizabeth leading the cast of “Deal”.  Hachem, Raymer and Moneymaker all have cameo appearances as well.  Click on the above link to view the trailer.

Sadler and Carter will post reviews on both movies once they have been released and encourage everyone to post thier own reviews and comments.

Better DPD then masked gunmen….right?

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

At a fundraiser event at a VFW hall in Long Island on Saturady four masked gunmen got away with more then just the prize pool.  The gunmen rushed in with handguns demand the prize pool money as well as wallets, purses and cell phones of the 80 players in the tournament.  It was reported that the robbers got away with more then $20,000 in cash.

The games in Dallas this weekend go robbed in a different way.  The Dallas SWAT with news crews not far behind raided three underground rooms.  Jackies, JB’s and Aces High were all closed down this Friday.

Both events turned up big losses for the house but I have to believe that the VFW hall will be running another game with the help of thier local law enforcement instead of the law enforement driving the games deeper underground.

Yet another final table……

Friday, October 6th, 2006

Fought my way through a field of 86 good and not-so-good poker players in the charity tourney to make the final table.  Not that this final table is anywhere comparable to the one that I made at the WSOP but still was nice to make it.  Seems like it has been for ever since I played a live touranment.

Got knocked out in 8th place after getting all my money on with pocket Jacks against pocket Aces preflop.  Way behind, right????  Not after the flop……hit my Jack!!!  Feeling pretty good that I am going to double up and have a good chance of making a run at first place….not so much.  The “POKER GODS” strike me down when the Ace comes on the river.  DAMN IT!!!!

In all the tourney was not that bad.  Could definitely be upgraded but looking forward to sponsoring the event again.  I got the honors of being the last man standing from the Sadler and Carter Team, so that was great.  Ray now has to call me “The CHAMP” in the office until we play another tourney and he can take the title.

We are getting a group of players for the Tulse tournament series coming up in Nov.  If your interested let us know.

What happen to having fun at the table!!!!

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Reading an article last week in Poker Pro Magazine that talked about having fun at the poker table.  The article got me to thinking about the days when I first started playing cards with my buddies.  We didn’t care who won or lost and it wasn’t about losing your money it was about having a good time.

Now days must poker tables you sit at, the seats are filled with players that take the game so serious that you can’t even have a little fun without someone getting upset.  The players are either going broke and can’t understand why that can be the next poker pro on “CardPlayer” magazine, or they are so serious about trying to learn the game they don’t want anything to do with anyone at table.

Before everyone jumps on my case about being serious “about” poker and it is a game of making money not friends!!!!  YEAH YEAH YEAH….I understand that and I love a good serious game with some good poker players, but don’t forget why we all started playing poker….TO HAVE FUN!!!!!

I am not trying to say you should not take the game serious but just trying relaxing a little at the table and try having just a little bit of fun while your winning or even losing.  It might even make your poker experience better then it is already.

Hope you have fun at the table and if you can’t at least don’t get upset with the players that are having fun!!!!
