Pretty In Pink

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Let me start off this post for the 9th game of the 2008 Freeroll Series by saying this…Medium shirts on a guy who normally wears XL are sexah!  Ok…I lie. Only one more event to go that I have to wear that shirt and I can not wait for it to be over. I think that thing is the second most uncomfortable thing I have ever had to put on my body.

If you were there on Monday then you know this event took place BACK where it all started. As much fun as it was playing at the shop again I really did miss The Parlour. (Really it was just Tanya that I missed but the other folks and food were nice too.)

Now on to some of the key hands I was able to see during the night. Since I actually got to watch the entire final table this time most of the hands in review will be from it.

Table 6 - Blinds 200/400 w/50 antes
There was a min raise to 800 from early position. Ruby Nguyen is first to call. It folds around to Keith Noblett who calls from BB.

Flop:

Keith pushes all in. Original raiser folds. Ruby calls for less with her last few hundred in chips.

Keith:    Ruby:

Turn:    River:

Ruby rakes in a nice sized pot and the look on Keith’s face is priceless. (I don’t feel so uncomfortable wearing the shirt now.)

Table 6 - Blinds 200/400 w/50 antes
Everyone folds to Michael Zaleski who is on the button. He pushes and gets called by Carey Becker for less from the BB.

Michael:    Carey:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

Michael gets no help after the J flops and is crippled.

On the next hand Michael pushes his last 125 from the cut off. Carey is in SB and limps. BB checks.

Flop: - BB bets 400 and Carey calls.

Turn: - Checks around.

River: - Checks around.

Carey shows for the low end of a straight and BB shows . Michael mucks and heads to the rail.

Table 5 - Blinds 200/400 w/50 antes
UTG limps. Next player min raises to 800. Button calls. Hoops calls from SB and BB calls along with the first limper.

Flop:

Hoops pushes 1050 into the pot and wins a nice chunk of change after everyone folds.

Table 6 - Blinds 200/400 w/50 antes
After losing most of his chips the hand before with JKo vs AKo we see Keith push 375 from SB. Carey gets a small rebate in the BB and the guys flip over their cards.

Keith:    Carey:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

There was a brief look of happiness in Keith’s eyes as the flop was put on the table, but I could not hear what he muttered as the river hit due to Ray’s laughter.

Final Table - Blinds 300/600 w/50 antes
John Tilton pushes 3850 from UTG. Eddie Torres calls. Lou Zibton makes the call on button.

Flop:

Eddie pushes his last 275 in and Lou quickly calls.

John:    Eddie:    Lou:

Turn:    River:

John hits a miracle 2 outer sending Eddie to the rail at 9th place and giving Lou a much shorter stack.

Final Table - Blinds 300/600 w/50 antes
Pat Bethan goes all in for 1750 from early position. Ruby puts her last 200 in on BB.

Pat:    Ruby:

Flop:    Turn:     River:

Ruby is sent packing in 8th place.

Final Table - Blinds 500/1000 w/100 antes
The action folds to Pat in SB who pushes 12k into the middle. Carey Becker calls from BB.

Pat:    Carey:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

Pat doubles up with more than 24k in chips.

Final Table - Blinds 500/1000 w/100 antes
Hoops limps in from early position. Carey raises to 3k from late position. The button and both blinds fold. Hoop thinks for a bit and then pushes his last 3800 into the pot and is called by Carey.

Hoops:    Carey:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

Hoops makes his gut shot straight on turn and doubles up.

Final Table - Blinds 1000/2000 w/200 antes
Pat goes all in from UTG for 4400. It folds to John Tilton in SB who calls.

Pat:    John:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

No Ace or Ten hits by the river and Pat is out at 7th place.

Final Table - Blinds 1000/2000 w/200 antes
SB is dead. Robert Somers pushes all in for 3700 in early position. John Davis quickly calls. Hoops goes into the tank before calling. Carey folds his BB.

Flop: - Checks around.

Turn: - John pushes and Hoops calls.

Robert:    John:    Hoops:

River:

Robert is saved by the river and more than triples up. John Davis is out at 6th place and Hoops stack got a bit shorter.

We have a lot of hands where someone pushes to take the blinds and antes.

Final Table - Blinds 1000/2000 w/200 antes
Folds around to the blinds. Carey limps in SB and Lou checks the BB.

Flop: - Carey checks to Lou who pushes and is quickly called.

Lou:    Carey:

Last two cards were removed before I saw them but obviously no 7 hit as Lou went out at 5th place.

Final Table - Blinds 2000/4000 w/300 antes
Hoops pushes 2100 from UTG. Robert pushes from SB and John Tilton quickly folds his BB.

Hoops:    Robert:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

No flush for Hoops and he is out at 4th.

Final Table - Blinds 2000/4000 w/300 antes
John is on the button and folds. Carey pushes for 6k in SB and is called by Robert.

John:    Robert:

Flop:

Another 5 does not hit and Carey doubles up.

This back and forth with the all ins and John getting chips or passing chips to Carey went on for a few hands. Robert just sat back and let them go at it like a couple of rabid pit bulls.

Final Table - Blinds 4000/8000 w/500 antes
John pushes in SB for 7400. Carey calls.

John:    Carey:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

This was the 5th time I had seen John get a pair of Jacks this tournament and either double him up or give him a bunch of chips as he took someone out. (I was one of those people when I got the rest in after he reraised on BB with them and I pushed with 99 like a goob.)

A couple hands later we have John limping in on the button and Carey pushes his 3k into the middle. Robert calls from BB. John questions Robert on his stack and after getting a reply folds.

Carey:    Robert:

Flop:    Turn:    River:

Carey’s 2 pair on the end does not good and he is out at 3rd.

Final Table - Blinds 4000/8000 w/500 antes
We are heads up and saw about 5-6 hands with all ins each time and chips going back and forth. Here are the 3 that stand out.

Robert pushes in SB for 11k with . John calls with

Flop:    Turn:    River:

With that amazing flop Robert doubles up to 22k and brings the stacks back to nearly even.

Next hand John pushes in SB for 21.5K with and Robert calls with

Flop:    Turn:    River:

Robert’s 69 does not do as well as the hand before and he is left with 500.

The last hand was just ran face up and John wins it with 24o and takes the win with Robert going out 2nd.

Congratulataions to all the final table players and to John Tilton for his win! Ray and Steve will be letting us know when the next event is taking place very soon.

Ed “Soon to be Poker Princess” Mayhall here with an update on the 8th tournament of the 2008 WSOP freeroll series.  For those of you who do not get the Poker Princess reference then I shall quickly explain.  Keith Noblett and I made a last longer prop bet the week before. Whoever lost the bet would be wearing a “Poker Princess” t-shirt (luckily not the tube top) for the next 3 events. Needless to say I lost after getting short stacked by a slow playing Charlie Nethaway who limped with QQ and then the final blow was delivered in the following hand:

Table 3 - Blinds 25/50
Everyone folds to the button who limps. Greg Miles limps from the SB. Ed Mayhall pushes 180 more from the BB. Button quickly folds and Greg goes into tank for a bit before calling.

Ed:   Greg:

Flop:   Turn:   River:

Greg got the $25 bounty gift certificate for The Parlour and the evil eye from me.

After getting knocked out I was able to run around and watch the other tables. It is not easy having 7 tables going and being the only person taking notes but I tried and here are some of the hands I was able to catch.

Table 1 - Blinds 50/100
Jack Mader pushes 425 from UTG. Button calls. Chris Kelton calls from BB.

Flop: - Both players check.

Turn: - Chris throws in a bet of 400 and the button folds.

Jack:   Chris:

River:

Chris takes a nice sized pot and Jack heads for the rail.

Table 9 - Blinds 50/100
Ray limps UTG. Torrey Schoel limps from the cut off. SB folds and BB checks.

Flop:

Ray checks. Torrey pushes. BB quickly folds and Ray takes up some camera time as he thinks a bit before mucking.

Table 1 - Blinds 100/200 w/25 antes
Debbie Molina pushes 700 in early position. BB calls.

Debbie:   BB:

Flop:   Turn:   River:

Debbie is saved by the turn and doubles up.

Table 1 - Blinds 100/200 w/25 antes
With only the player in cut off limping in Chris Kelton pushes 925 from SB. BB folds and cut off calls.

Chris:   Cut off:

Flop:   Turn:   River:

Chris doubles up.

Table 3 - Blinds 100/200 w/25 antes
Greg Miles pushes 1275 from early position. SB folds. Charlie Nethaway is in BB and goes into the tank before mucking and showing a pair of 6s. Greg kindly shows him pocket Jacks.

Table 1 - Blinds 100/200 w/25 antes
Ruby pushes from UTG. Billy Brewer pushes. It folds to Keith Noblett who is on BB and he quickly calls.

Ruby:   Billy:   Keith:

Billy spikes a J on the flop and nothing comes along to help Ruby or Keith. Billy takes a nice sized pot. Keith vents a bit.

Table 1 - Blinds 100/200 w/25 antes
3 limpers come into the pot and BB checks.

Flop:

Michael Zaleski checks from SB. BB pushes. Folds to Larry Dugger who is in cut off and he calls. Michael raises 500 more. Larry pushes for 1200 total and Michael quickly calls.

Michael:   Larry:   BB: XX (cards taken before I got them written down but he wins main pot so I guess they were good)

Turn:   River:

Michael takes side pot and BB gets main pot.

(Keith talks me into playing a SNG at this point which I had declined but peer pressure got the better of me. I last longer than expected and go heads up with Torrey who takes the win.)

Final table has been going and I come back from the SnG to see Brian Tiesman going out at 5th.

Final Table - Blinds 2k/4k w/300 antes
UTG mucks. Debbie Molina pushes. Ray folds in SB. BB thinks for a while and calls for less.

BB doubles up when his dominated hits 2 pair.

Next hand Debbie pushes from UTG with . Ray folds the button and SB folds too. Alan Prochnick calls for less from BB with .

Debbie knocks Alan out with a boat on the river. (A little over kill if you ask me. She can be so brutal sometimes.)

A few hands later Chris Clayton pushes from SB with .. Debbie folds BB and Ray quickly calls with

Nothing comes to help Chris and he is out at 3rd.

Final Table - Blinds 4k/8k w/500 antes
1st hand of heads up. Debbie pushes. Ray calls.

Debbie:   Ray:

Flop:   Turn:   River:

Ray gets lucky.Debbie gets no love from the poker gods and Ray takes the win. I hear everytime Ray wins a tournament an angel gets its wings.

************************************************

I hope you enjoyed the mini report on the tournament. I will try and get better with the names of newer people or those I have not seen much this season. If you have any suggestions or would like to see other things talked about besides key hands then let me know at the next event or in the comments if you can leave them.

There are no more events until next year so have a safe and happy holiday break!

The third event of 2008 is in the record books

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Last night was the third event in 2008 WSOP freeroll series. We had a great turnout even thought the weather didn’t cooperate very well. The rain came in fast about an hour before the cards were in the air but everyone braved the weather and came out to play some great poker. With over 90 players I decided to sit this one out and act as TD (tournament director). Plus I could not let playing cards get in the way of drinking on Rays tab which I beat him out of on Friday afternoon.Ray got to play in the tournament and put on a ROMO like performance. Donk’n his way through about half of the tournament. In his defense the Cowboys were choking and he could not concentrate on the cards. Poor Romo had a terrible game but some how the Boys still pulled out a win. Seems shaky!!!

The final table had some familiar faces from this season and last couple of seasons. The “Durb” made the final table for the first time this season and made a critical mistake when he raised not noticing a player in front of him had already raised. Losing most of his chips on that hand his tournament life was in a nose dive that he could not pull out of.  Mr.Hayhill Mayhall made the final table for the second week in a row and has already won an event. Very nice showing ED!!! The tournament got heads up with Mr. H (Jim Hoffpaur) and Ronnie “I might show up” Bledsoe. As the tournament grinded on most people were gathered around the bar watching the dramatic finish to the football game. About the same time as the game finished all the chips got pushed into the middle. Bledsoe with K-K and Mr. H with Q-9. Flop comes J-10-8.…WOW….nice work Mr. H. The turn brought a king giving Ronnie a little hope. The river came 10 giving Ronnie a full house and the victory. Nice Catch Good job Bledsoe!!!! Another great event with some great people, great food and great poker. I sure do enjoy playing and just hanging out with everyone. The next event is scheduled for Oct. 22nd. Registration should be open later this week. Points and final table finishers will be posted later this week also. Hope everyone is enjoying the new venue and look forward to seeing you at the next event.

Another great poker achievement

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

After winning the tournament knocking Ray out of the tournament last week which was great, I added another great poker achievement to my bio.  Beating Ray in a heads-up match on Friday afternoon for the bar tab at The Parlour on Monday night.  So if I seem to be drinking a little more this Monday it is because Ray is paying for all my drinks!!!  Of course I will still buy any player a drink that knocks Ray out of the tournament, and NO I won’t let that one go on his tab(that is just not right).

We had some great poker last week at our first tournament.  The sit-n-go tournaments were running none stop and should be the same this week.  We will have enough to run four sit-n-go tourneys this week so make sure you come out to play.  The points for winning a SNG have been doubled this year to make them even more enticing.

Hope everyone comes out to join us for some great poker and great food.  If you come out early for happy hour or an early dinner you will get coupon tickets.  At the dinner break durning the tournament we will be doing a drawing for prizes.  We will be doing a drawing at the final table as well.  So if you come out early and stay all night you have a chance of winning twice.  The more you eat and drink the better chance you will have a winning.  This week we will be giving away a great new chipset.  A really cool new case with some great poker chips.

The WSOP 2008 Freeroll has Landed!!!

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

The Parlour has agreed to host the 2008 WSOP Freeroll series for Sadler and Carter Poker.  Over the next six months we will be running events every other Monday.  Last Mondays event was a huge sucess.  Great players, great poker, great food and a great venue.  All that and the best free poker in Texas is a winning combination.  The next event will be Monday October 8th.  Sorry for the short notice but the turnout should still be great.  We only got great comments about the food so make sure you come out early and get some dinner.  We will be handing out coupons for dinner and drink purchases.  We will have a drawing at the dinner break and at the final table so make sure you come out and get your coupons.  The sit-n-go tournaments will also be running this year.  Last week we only had two SNG’s running but starting this week we will have enough to run at least four SNG’s.  So if you do get knocked out of the main tournament early you still can get some play in and earn some points toward the final.  The final this year will only have about 30 or 35 players.  So points will be more important then ever.  Ray and I are working on all the fine details and will have them all posted on the website within the week.  Looking forward to playing with everyone again and hope those that didn’t make last weeks event will come out and give the new venue a try.  See you on the felt!!!!!

Just a few days until “The Parlour”

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The kickoff to the new venue is just a few days away and looks like we are going to have another great turnout. We only have a few spots open on the pre-registration. We will be sitting 100 players so if you don’t get to pre-registered you can still come out and play. Doug at The Parlour has opened the doors on a day they are normally closed. THANKS DOUG!!!

Make sure you come out early and have some dinner before the tourney gets started or have a drink with Ray and myself.

We have added a dinner break to the tournament structure. This is to help the speed of play during the tournament and also give The Parlour a chance to get some food sales. Doug has come up with a great menu just for the Sadler and Carter Poker Players so please take the time to support us as well as The Parlour.

This venue can be a great new place for the WSOP 2008 Freerolls. Since the restaurant is normally closed on Monday we will have a nice private feel like we had at the poker shop but at a place with a much better food and drink menu.

Ray and I will both be playing in this event and I am looking forward to knocking Ray out. I will buy a drink for anyone that can knock him out before I do. He will be playing his normal DONKEY poker so be careful. You know after he has had a few drinks he will play any two cards. Thanks for all of your support and I hope this venue works a little better then the last one. I am ready to get the freeroll tournaments started and planning our next trip to the WSOP.

See you on the felt!!

Inaugural 2008 Freeroll Series Post-Game Poll!

2) We will be giving away our famous $ 1,500.00 WSOP seat at the end of each series in a FINAL TOURNAMENT.

3) We are going to extend our FINAL TOURNAMENT to include the TOP 15 POINT EARNERS.

3) This means that we will have 12 winners and the top 15 point earners in the finals, which will give you a 1 in 27 chance at playing for your shot WINNING A SEAT IN THE WORLD SERIES OF POKER IN LAS VEGAS!

If you have further questions, please e-mail steve@sadlerandcarterpoker.com

Post-Game Information and Comments! September 11, 2007

We had 97 players in the Tournament.  Congratulations to the following FINAL TABLE PARTICIPANTS:

1. Ed Mayhill * WINNER

2. James Gee

3. Glenn Petty

4. Pete Adams

5. Lina Gonterman

6. Robert “Suck-Out” Rita

7. Darla Huber

8. Phil “Poker Phil” Borrero

9. Hud Dunlap

A Final table of mostly new faces for the Sadler and Carter Poker League Series Events.   Those who have been playing in our series since inception expect that a few players, like “Durb” and “Machine Gun Jamie” to not make an impact on the tournament standings, but to have “Suck-Out” Rita posting a 6th place finish is something to write about!

My tournament was brought to an end on a suck-out, donkey, “Rainbolted”, excellent statistical card playing magician of a move by Alex Garza.  He knocked out both myself and Haley Wilson with a runner, runner flush.  I spoke malicious words of hate in my sleep, if I were Harry Potter he would be a toad now, but now I take it all back because he came in the shop just a couple hours ago and bought a 500 pc. 14gram poker chip case.   Which is why we put on these freerolls in the first place!  Thanks Alex!

Now to the business at hand:  What did we like about the new venue?  What would we like to change about the venue to make it BETTER?

Here is a few of the things WE would like to change to make it better:

1) Very WARM to say the least.  I am going to work on management to get that under control.

2) A few players mentioned slower service than expected.  *We think that is because they weren’t expecting such a large turn-out.  Now they know what to expect and should be better prepared for the next event.

3) We thought about asking for a “Food Special” along with our drink special for our weekly event.

4) Monday Night instead of Tuesday night.  Better to watch football and play in the single table events…..GO ROMO!

Here is where we are DIFFERENT from any other poker event in the nation!  WHAT DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE and WE WILL TRY TO GET IT DONE!  We have to stay within reason, but nobody has better than .777 accomplishment rating than us!

Please click on the comment tab to voice your comments.  YOU HAVE TO REGISTER AS A USER ON THE BLOG IN ORDER TO VOICE YOUR COMMENTS!  This is necessary so we can keep the PORN, LOSERS, uninvited guests off our site.

It was good to see all the familiar faces last night!  I did speak with of some of you last evening to explain how this years event will be different from years past, we are planning to move our business to another area in DFW within the next year and to ensure the ability to continue we have decided to hold the events outside the Retail Shop.

Thanks for being friends and customers,

Ray

Could be the biggest tourney yet!!!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Even though online registration is already full we will still be seating at least another 20 to 30 players.  We are hoping to hit 100 players on our first tourney.  If you didn’t get signed up for the tournament online you can still come out and play.  Show up at least 10 or 20 minutes early to get on the list.

For those of you that did get signed up or those that are planning on coming out please make sure that you get to Wizards before the event starts.  One thing that we do pride ourselves on at Sadler and Carter Poker is getting the cards in the air on time.  Start time of this event is 7:00 PM SHARP!!!!

See every next Tuesday!!!

S&C Poker Freeroll Series - FAQ

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Glad to see everyone still wants to play poker!!!  After just our first email and one blog post we already have 77 players signed up for the Tuesday freeroll tournament.  After we have the 80 players signed up registration will be closed.  After registration is closed players will have to sign up in person at Wizards the night of the event.  Also please remember to let us know if you are not going to make the tournament.  If you have signed up and don’t show you will be unable to play in events the next week.

I have had a few emails asking about the venue and how things are going to run this year.  Some players very excited that we are getting the freeroll tourneys up and running again and some with a little bit of negative feedback about the new venue.  I would hope that everyone would at least give the new venue a chance.  Yes, the new venue will be a little different but it will still be a Sadler and Carter Freeroll.  Steve and Ray will still be running the tourneys with the same integrity that we always have.   I will answer all questions/emails directly by the end of Tuesday.   Just to address some general questions please see the information below.

Tournament structure will be similar to last year’s tournaments.  I will have a link for players to view before the end of next week.  I understand that some players are concerned about the drinking and smoking but we will try to keep the integrity of our great freeroll tournament intact as much as possible.  There have been a few players that were upset with the additional starting chips.  Please understand that is more than likely a onetime bonus.  If and when we get the freeroll series up and running we should not have any kind of starting bonuses.

We want to thank everyone that has signed up and that has chosen to support Sadler and Carter Poker.  With the new venues there will be new problems.  Sadler and Carter Poker will address these problems as they occur and will do so in the best interest of the game and the business.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night!!!

2008 Freeroll Series just around the corner!!!

Friday, August 31st, 2007

A new year and a new venue.  Sadler and Carter poker is taking the 2008 WSOP freeroll series on the road.  We will be having our first event on Sept. 11th at Wizards Sports Café in Richardson.  If we can get a good turnout then we will get the Freeroll series kicked off before the end of September.  We are looking for everyones support on the first tournament of the 2008 Series.  We will be giving away some great prizes for the top finishers as well as some special give aways for players at the final table.

There will only be one tournament on the 11th.  The cards will be in the air at 7:00PM.  We have come up with some twist this year that should make the freerolls even better then before  and even help out Wizards our new sponsor.   Players that show up early to Wizards for a bite to eat before the tourney will get extra chips added to their starting stack.  Also Players that preregister on our website will get extra starting chips.  Take full advantage of the extra chips and get the 2008 Freeroll series started with a win!!!

Hope to see everyone at the tournament.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone again!!!

WSOP Circuit Schedule 2007-2008

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Harrah’s has released the schedule for the  07/08 WSOP ciruit events.  Starting with a event not far from Dallas, just a short trip north to Tunica.  They have also add a tournament in New Orleans this fall.  Could be an option for the Sadler and Carter Poker Team.  Let us know if anyone is interested!!

We are thinking about starting the Freeroll series for a tournament in the Tunica event going on in January.  More details to come on that soon but would love to get some feedback from everyone about it.

Below are dates and locations of the events.

I’m back and hope you missed me…

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Well it has been a long time since the last post!!!!

The last time we talked you read Sadler and Carter Poker was getting ready to host the 2007 WSOP Freeroll Final.  The final was great!!!  Robin T. fought her way back from being out chipped  3 to 1 when heads up play started.  Robin and Eric both joined the Sadler and Carter Poker team in Las Vegas for the 2007 World Series of Poker.  They both played well in the event as well as eveyone else from the Sadler and Carter Poker team besides myself.  Only lasted about an hour and a half, was pretty disappointing.  THAT’S POKER!!!

We had also been discussing the Gaming Life Expo.  The Expo was a huge success.  Better then we could have ever expected.  Sold lots of product and made some great contacts.  Looking foward to next years EXPO.
Well that is all the updating I can handle for now!!!  Keep watching for details on the next Freeroll series starting soon.  I will be posting some different ideas for everyone to vote on before we get started so make sure you spread the word for players to check out the blog.
ONE LAST NOTE
We have removed the forum because for the dirty ass spammers that can’t keep their porn pics to themselves.  We apologize if anyone was offended and also to anyone that was enjoying the porn and is wondering where it went.

2007 WSOP Freeroll Series

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I have been getting lots of questions about the final tournament and about all the remaining freerolls.  After some picking dates out of the blue careful planning we have come up with a date for the final.  The final will be held on Sunday, May 20th.  The time has not been set but it will start before noon sometime.  The structure of the tournament will be as close to the $1,500 WSOP event as possible.  So if you have won a seat in the final make sure you save the date.  The event will run most of the day so make sure you come ready to put in a long session.

As far as for remaining tourneys are concerned we have seven Friday night events as of this week.  After having one Tuesday night event and then not holding one this week we got lots of emails and phone calls from upset players.  So we have decided to add one event every week until the final.  That is six more chances to win a seat in the finals.  If you didn’t get a chance to play in the “during the week” event you should come try it.  The next additional event will be on Tuesday April 10th.  Registration will be open for this event starting tomorrow morning.  Get signed up quick because the spots will go fast.

Hope this helps answer some of the questions that everyone had. If not please feel free to contact us with your questions.

What can you learn from playing the same players?

Having a deep discussion with Mr Sadler today about the the short handed tournaments that we play durning the week.  Most of the tourneys are between 3 to 6 handed.  The tournaments were started over 3 or 4 months ago with Ray and I playing heads up and discussing the plays/cards and the reasons we bet or raised.  It seems that Rays major complaint is that we are no longer learning or making our game better but only out for blood at each tourney.  The tourneys are no longer a tool to make our poker play better.  The run of bad cards that he has had this year doesn’t help his outlook on the tourneys.  My thought on the tourneys is they are great tools for trying different playing strategies.  Also a great way for practicing reads and attempting bluffs.  Ray didn’t seem to think playing the same players 3 to 4 times a week will help your game in a large tournament field with lots of players that you have never played with or will never play again.   So what are your thoughts, playing the same players 3 or 4 times a week a plus for you game or no real help besides frustration and hatred?

Another Two Time Winner!!!

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Congrats to Baltasar for becoming our third two time winner!!!  Baltasar bested the second largest field of 82 to become the third player to win two events.  Debbie and Skip are the other two time winners.  The final tourney is shaping up to be on of the best tournaments we have ever had.  Keep your eye on your email for some special weekday events that we will be adding soon.

A full house…

It wasn’t my night to work but I was at the shop as players started showing up for tonights tournaments.  Looked like it could be a crazy night.  Tournament registration was maxed out early Friday morning and when I left today there was over 23 people on the alternate list for the 6:00 tourney.  The great turnout has a lot to do with our new sponsorship of meetup.com poker group.  Make sure you get signed up early for the tournaments next week.  We have over 30 players registered for both tournaments already.  So thanks to everyone that came out to play and look forward to meeting everyone at next weeks tournaments!!

Sorry for the delay in posts….

My laptop went into the electronic neverland last week and is still MIA.  So I am having to return to the “stone ages” and actually use a desktop PC….SCARY!!!!  Just wanted to let everyone know the sacrifice that I am making to keep the S&C blog alive.  All I ask is a comment from a few of you once in while little class particitpation.  Enough of my whining!!!

A few poker notes:

Congrats to Durb for finally pulling out a win at the WSOP Freerolls.  Gooooo DURB!!!!

Congrats to Uncle Kyle for taking 1st place in the “Durbin Invitational” last weekend.  A very nice little tourney even with all the bad beat stories that came along with it.  Get over it already Jimmy!!! LOL!!!

Welcome all the new readers from the Dallas Meetup group.  Sadler and Carter Poker is proud to be a sponsor and look forward to meeting everyone at the WSOP Freerolls.

A very satisfying second

Monday, February 26th, 2007

The Sadler and Carter Poker Team hit the felt on Saturday morning for one of the earliest events that I have ever played. The cards got in the air at 9:30 AM with some players drinking coffee and some drinking beer. The annual Maverick tournament got off to a great start with 63 players. A mix of good players and casual players more interested in the free drinks.

Everyone for Sadler and Carter had a great showing with all six of us making the top 50% of the field. Four of us making the top 12 and two of us making the final table. Uncle Kyle and I (Steve) both made the final table and had a nice prop bet, who ever placed higher had to pick up the bar tab. Fortunately I had to pick up the tab but we didn’t drink too many so everything worked out.

The grind to the final table was pretty tuff. As the tournament started my table was fairly easy going and pretty easy to read. With three or four of the players chasing just about anything and everything. It worked out well because they were not catching what they were chasing and I was getting some great cards. As the players were eliminated, I was moved to a table with players that all had pretty good size stacks. My first hand at the new table I try and push a guy off a hand with bottom pair and turns out that he flopped the boat and played it like a pro. I lost over half my chip stack and thought my run of good cards was coming to an end. I tightened my play up and slowly started building my chips back. About the point that I get back to an average stack it is time to move again. This time I am sitting to the left of Uncle Kyle. Three hands into moving I pick up pocket Q’s and make a good size bet. Folds around to a player that I had played with a little at one of the previous tables. He moves all-in. His play at the other table was not bad but I thought he would make the move with a middle pair, A-K or even worse. Unfortunately it turned out to be much better, he was holding Aces and I doubled him up. Very low stack I have to start playing super tight/aggressive. After a few successful steals of the blinds I have a little operating room. Uncle Kyle doubles me up one time as well as one other player and I am back in action. As the final eight players make up the final table I am not in too bad of shape and try to grind it out into the top 4. Play is pretty tight at the final table but push lots of chips between players. I get heads up with “Lama”. We chop the money a little more evenly and play for a small amount remaining. Doing this really helped loosen up play and we get all the chips in twice before he knocks me out. A very satisfying second place. I feel that I played good and even the few mistakes I did make, I came back from.

Thanks to Durb and Machinegun for hanging out and routing me on!!! Luby sorry about your J’s. Bolt didn’t get a chance to hear your bad beat story but sure there is one.

Overall it was a great tournament. A very friendly structure and some good people to play with. Looking forward to the next tourney. Nicely run by a great TD as well!!!!

Kosta Sengos won the Horseshoe Council Bluffs WSOPC main event.  People win poker tournaments everyday but what Kosta Sengosmakes this story so great is Kosta won his seat into the event through free poker league.  Similar to the events that we hold at Sadler and Carter Poker.  So keep playing and you could be the lucky player to win the WSOP event in Vegas this June!!!  Good luck to all the players that have already won and to all the players that will make the finals in the next couple of months.  Look for info on the finals in June and make sure you stay tuned reading for all the late breaking news from Vegas when we head out to mix it up with the big boys.
